You're not wrong, there. Our ducks outperform the chickens. I'll actually probably eat our few chickens this spring. I have a post on how I cross Cayuga x Khaki to get sex-linked offspring. This lets me get prolific egg layers and meaty drakes.
I've fed people duck roast in the slow cooker with carrots and potatoes without them knowing it wasn't beef.
And yes, ducks are way cooler in the yard than chickens.
Interesting cross. We have a Buff that we crossed, she is the biggest of ours, outperforms all the others including Cornish cross chickens, Pekins and Swedish for size, growth, eggs, and temperament. Pretty too. Would recommend.
We really enjoyed hatching as well.
Those are a good breed for eggs, too. Getting something sex linked was my end goal. As soon as they hatch I know the tan ones will lay and the black ones will end up in the fridge. I'm not a fan of vent sexing, and this just makes things easier.
