A hunter contacted me earlier in the week about buying 100 adult birds to release on his property. He wants them in April. I said stop by with $300 and I'll have you a box of birds come April. He showed up, paid, and said he'll want to do it again for the same price in October.

I have a feeling he's going to make a lot more money off this than I will, but that's ok. This first sale will cover the feed costs for me to absolutely fill a freezer this year.

I don't do this for the money. I give away more eggs than I sell. However, it doesn't take much to cover my costs to always have a ton of tasty meat on hand.

Congrats!

What kinda quail did you sell him?

Bobwhites?

I raise coturnix. I'll have to raise his without much handling. You don't want them strolling right up to the hunters looking for a handout.

Lol.

"Broken fucking birds."--- Hunter trying to hunt while birds are pecking at his boots.

You'd get Dick Cheney'd in the boot.

How much space will 100 adults need?

As siblings, they'll safely spend their 6-8 weeks in a 3ft x 8ft enclosure standing on wire. I can't reach 4ft or I'd build a foot deeper.

Standing on the ground, it'd take triple that or more OR constant poop removal.

It's far better on wire, less disease, less work, more easily gathered poop for the garden!

The biggest thing is less effort for me. Other than egg collection, food and water last a week without a refill (in the summer).
