Unlike chickens and quail, drakes have wieners. Big long curly goddamn wieners. I mean, you guys have to see it to believe it. My drake will mount a female and then run off with his dick dragging behind him. Go to Arby's, tell them to turn a whole potato into a singly curly fry, and you have a duck wiener.
On the other side of the yard from my quail, watch out for ducks. I would recommend starting with a duck to anyone versus a chicken. At night, they go into a 4ft x 8ft enclosure. It's 4ft tall in case I have to get in there. I've raised several breeds, but I've stuck with Khaki Campbell and Cayugas.

No duck lays more eggs than a Khaki Campbell. Even in the winter, they lay nearly every day. They're a smaller duck breed and great foragers. The Cayuga is just a big dumpy duck very similar in my opinion to Pekin ducks, except less retarded as Pekins. They're friendly and meaty. The only problem with these 2 duck breeds is it takes 4 months or so to clearly determine which are going to lay eggs and which are dinner.
I read a study about crossing a cayuga female with a khaki male to create sex-linked offspring (being able to tell upon hatching which are boys and which are girls). I owned the opposite, a cayuga drake and khaki ducks. "Great minds" on the interwebs said this was no good, so of course I did it anyway. BTW, his name was Darius Ducker for obvious reasons.
What I got were black ducklings and tan ducklings. Every single black one has been a boy and every single tan one has been a girl. The boys get nearly as large as the original drake - great for meat. The girls lay nearly as consistently as the original khaki campbell. Also, the girls are a lot less skittish than your typical khaki campbell, but they look identical. When people show up to buy quail, many comment on how weirdly friendly my khakis are.
