When you said they're almost too stupid to learn as chicks, that fucking cracked me up.
The first week you basically have a whole box of retards running at high speed.

You got any pics of your whole setup and how much room it takes? How big is any outdoor or do you have any? Temp control not for brooders?
It's so shitty outside right now that I didn't want to walk out to the shed for pics.
I use a 3ft tote for brooder #1. Brooder #2 is a regular 2ft tote. Both of those are indoors (or in the garage if it's nice out). I will use the larger brooder pictured above (2ft x 4ft) if I hatch a huge batch. Outdoors, I have a couple 2ft x 4ft tractors for non-breeding stock. My breeders go in my main hutch which is 3ft deep and 8ft wide. This will comfortably house 75 birds.
Once they're outdoors, they're outdoors. No temperature control is needed. Quail don't care about the cold at all as long as they can get out of the wind and rain. If you set a snowball in their cage they'll go crazy eating it and jumping on it.
wow, so no space at all. So they never fly. This reminds me of fair chickens. Only way less space and temp control.
75 birds (15M and 60F) is only during full production in the summer. That's 50+ eggs per day. It's also a goddamn sex-fest in there with those numbers.
It's not as crowded as it sounds. There's usually a group playing in their sandbox and another group chilling by the water cooler.
