Skinless duck makes a great substitute for a beef roast. The taste and mouth-feel will fool even the most squeamish people (assuming you cut the meat off the bones).

Grind up breast meat 70/30 with bacon (or more 'cuz bacon) to make a burger patty. It's not a total substitute for hamburger, but we can't all have cows roaming around.

I don't know if every type of duck tastes the same, but your meat varieties like Pekin and Cayuga work just fine.

I got herbs. Can't wait to eat yard bird with yard herbs.

The first duck I ever had was some dish with cherry sauce... I forget the name of dish, but it was by a Michelin starred French chef and I will never forget how good it was. I can't go back so I'm too scarred to eat duck again and besmirch that memory.

I know this is a quail sub, but I've been wanting ducks. Can you give a brief run down of their area, upkeep, pro and cons? I haven't gotten them because I've been told they destroy yard. We free range our chickens, guineas, and turkeys. There are days I wish we didn't.

There apparently aren't any active food from home subs, so if you raise it or grow it, it's going to live in here.

Ducks don't really tear anything up, but if you have a bush with tasty leaves or berries, you won't have any within 2ft of the ground. They definitely don't ruin your grass like chickens.

If they see a little hole with some water in it, it'll become a hole you could putt into. They're very messy with their water, but you can place a piece of wire fence in front of their bowl only allowing their head to fit through to drink. Problem solved. They like to mate in the water, but setting down even a bowl of water will create a hump fest.

I only have 5 ducks and a drake right now. They patrol about 150 sq/ft. I'll let them into the main yard to forage sometimes. They're easy to herd anywhere you want them to go, unlike chickens. When I yell "go to bed!", they all shoot into their house without issue.

That's so funny and cute. I've wanted ducks for a really long time but thought they did destroy yards.i had two "toboggan" ducks when I was five and they followed me everywhere I went. My parents made me get rid of them citing that they were destroying the yard. They went to a really nice farm with a pond and were eaten by a hawk within a week. Sad memories.

Do you recommend that I get the same kind you do?

Maybe they were eating your mom's flowers or something? I can't imagine how they were tearing up the yard other than what I mentioned about water holes? A single chicken years up more grass than when I have 15 ducks running around.

I settled on these breeds for meat and eggs. I've raised pekins for meat, but they're not much fun. I'd rather hatch my own than pay $2 for ducklings, but there aren't any sex linked breeds that could match the eggs and meat of these 2.

Are you going to eat them? Do you just want eggs? Do you just find them entertaining out in the yard? Do you have neighbors? I'll recommend some breeds based on that.

My picture file sizes are bigger than I'd like. I'll try to fix that moving forward. But in the meantime, zoom way in on that ducky goodness.

Cropping usually resizes the photos. That looks like I'd tear it up. I know where ducks congregate near here, but I don't want to go straight african bush poacher on them.

IDK what kind of ducks you've got near you, but maybe you could walk off with one? Check your laws or make sure no one is looking.

Let's assume hypothetically it's legal, lol. Sit somewhere and feed them. A brave one will soon eat out of your hand. Scoop it up so it can't flap the shit out of you. Go home, and trim it's wings so it can't escape your fence.

Kek. There's one place right next to the road behind a row of $$$ houses. But out in the sticks there's homes with chickens and turkeys in the yards. I can hear a rooster everyday in the summer time.

Winner winner, yardbird dinner!
