I'd like to make a point about this whole "inventories" theme that we've seen so often in the past week or two. This particular story is about gasoline, but previous stories were about diesel fuel inventories. The point is, these inventories don't just keep getting lower and lower until they run out. As they are depleted, more fuel is added to them.

I read one story that said we are going to run out of diesel fuel in 23 days. The presumption was that the inventory would just keep getting lower and lower until it was empty. That's not how it works. These inventories are dynamic. As they are drawn upon, they are being replenished. They go down when more is taken out than is put in -- but if more is suddenly put in than is taken out, they go up.
