our power company keeps trying to push those thermostats they can control. fuck them. I wont ever let them do it. also you can take the wire connect to the R on the thermostat and tie to the one on the Y terminal and make the AC come on. It wont shut off until you take the wires apart though.

if you house cannot run a thermostat how the fuck is it going to run an electric car

That's when you take the thermostat off the wall and twist the wires together

I have to assume they signed up for the reduced rate plan that allows them to do this.

Rip it off the wall and put your old one back up

One picture of the thermostat that I saw looked like you can opt-out. My electric bill is always insanely high in the summer but I don't care I like being comfortable and try to budget for it.

Just bypass it from the other side of the wall behind the meter. Completely bypass the meter all together and outjew them.
