As someone who was audited by the IRS, they use every dirty trick they can to maximize just how many fines they force you to pay. They will intentionally delay and stall letters, back date stuff, openly interpret stuff their way, and then the worst .. the appeal process. The appeal process means if you win, you get your money back (around a < 1% chance of this actually happening), however if you lose the appeal, you get a ton more interest and fines tacked on to your bill. So heads you lose since you don't account for inflation or anything, just some slight backpay, tails you lose. Fuck this agency, needs to be burned to the ground
