There are basically 4 educational philosophies;
1) Perenialism which tries to impart great old ideas and beliefs for a succesful society. Ideals like freedom of speech, the value of hard work and religious teaching.
2) Essentialism which teaches essential knowledge for kids to become contributing members of society. Prepare them to make a living.
3) Progressive education which is child centric and you don't teach them, they explore and construct their own knowledge. "Everyone is winner who should be happy, even though they can't spell for shit".
4) Reconstructionism which views children as "change agents", which must be activated to address "inequality", "bigotry" and lack of "democracy/socialism".
IMHO no 3 and 4 are a cancer on humanity...
