There are times when you just have to make the call and do what needs to be done. If you're that sure, don't ask for permission, just peel his wig back. Do you really think in the midst of all of that shit anybody would have noticed?
Then report hearing a shot fired in your vicinity: "CP? This is post 1 out by the ECP. We just heard a shot fired near our location and it looks like there might be a civilian down out there. Please advise." (Please note: Nothing in that transmission would be a lie, or inaccurate information.)
After they check the body and find the vest, all will be forgiven anyway. I learned a long time ago that nobody really sweats the pissants when the elephants are stampeding.
Patriot, I agree with you on making the call. Here is what bothers me. Hirsch says the US Military spotted the bomber before the blast but that US military brass would not let them take him out. Why not. This same crap played out in Vietnam later in the war. When entering Vietnam as they referred to it as "Police Action" the attitude was we are in it to win it, and in the end it came to nobody wanted to be the last one to die in Vietnam. We have a leadership problem that aides the enemy based on politics.

Because the moment you ask a chain of command, any chain of command, that has a JAG officer stuck on the neck of every commander, like a tick, you automatically trigger a chain of events that requires non-combat personnel, in a nice, safe, air-conditioned rear area, to start debating about how to pick up a turd by the "clean end". This is a process that can take hours, even days, when seconds count.
Do you think Alexander, Julius Caesar, Heinz Guderian, Erwin Rommel, Lee or Patton etc. etc. had JAG officers that they turned to and asked, "What should I do?" before making a fucking decision?
Patriot, those in the past you list were leaders. But as it was in Vietnam the RTO had to get authorization to return fire even when they were heavily engaged by the enemy. Nothing like keying the mike and let those in the rear hear the enemy fire. I suspect this same political crap was pulled on the Grunts. Obama pulled the same crap. Biggest problem with the Politics is they no longer care if you are right.
