Phoenicians were red haired and blue eyed, so they were obviously white and not related to Canaanites or Turks. Its something that the Greeks noted in many of their ancient writtings. The Phoenicians even mined tin and lead in the British Isles, namely in the Cornwall area and traded goods from all over the known world its a matter of history. Not sure why you connect Phoenicians with piracy.
I've been wondering about the Phoenicians to be honest. Though they were of the land and times of Canaan. I kind of put them with Venician masks like Eyes Wide Shut but I have not an issue correcting an error and definitely don't want to insult such badasses as the Sea People. IDK I'm tired and don't want to think anymore today. I'm going to sleep so don't think I'm ignoring any responses or anything as I'll be sleeping.
The Phoenicians were a Semitic people, meaning that they were descended from Shem. They were kinsmen to the Israelites as we learn from the correspondence between King Solomon and the King of Tyre. They spoke the same language and used the same alphabet. Also ignored by the mainstream academe is that the ancient Hebrew alphabet was nearly identical to so-called Phoenecian. Of course the ancient Hebrew/Phoenician language and alphabet was gradually lost in the middle east after the Babylonian captivity. The people of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin that returned to Jerusalem could no longer understand Hebrew and Ezra bemoaned this fact. After 70 years in Babylon they lost their language now only speaking Chaldee. Ancient Hebrew however continued to be spoken in many lands by the Israelites that travelled northwest after their deportation by the Assyrians in 721 BC. What is commonly ignored by mainstream historians is that during the times of the Judges before the Israelites ever had a king for themselves, many of them migrated to the coastland and became seafarers trading in goods. It is during this time that city states like Tyre and Sidon became wealthy and powerful. When King Solomon built the first Temple at Jerusalem, many Israelites were hired from Tyre for their engineering and stone building skills. During the time of the Judges its interesting to note that the Simeonites had set up colonies in the land of Greece which flourished. It is to those people that the Apostles preached the gospel. Jesus Christ had said "I am not come but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel" and commanded the Apostles to go ONLY to the house of Israel to heal the sick and preach the gospel.
In closing, those whom say they are of Judah and are NOT only speak Yiddish which is the ancient Khazar language or Chaldee which is Eastern Aramaic and were NEVER Hebrews.
