I issued a complaint to American Water and spoke with a technician in their website development and was told that there was nothing that can be done about it. I also submitted a complaint to the Public Service Commission who actually responded, believe it's a legitimate issue, and are investigating it. Obviously, that doesn't mean that anything will be done, but it's a start. The good news is that my Public Service Commission said that they've received several calls about this problem which is great because it means that people are speaking up!

In the meantime, if you are affected by this problem, please submit a complaint to American Water and to your Public Service Commission. American Water has no right to dictate what browsers we can use. This is one of the ways that the Globalists gain power, and we have to stop it. I also suggest that anyone unable to access their American Water account should send requests for print-outs of their water usage or anything else that will present a major pain to American Water to fulfill - because they HAVE to provide us with that requested information - Let's make it hard for them - and any other company that restricts our freedom of choice!

Use a plugin for the browser of your choice to spoof the User-Agent: header to match that of Safari or Chrome.

Unfortunately, that's only a way AROUND the problem - As long as we let companies continue to get away with this stuff, we're not changing anything, and it will only get worse.

My goal is to prevent them from being allowed to do this. PERIOD.

Interesting how entitled corps are becoming specifically in regards to our metadata.

Recently had a hotel staffer tell me that I had to download an app which would give me a portal to provide copies of a number of docs, in addition to a selfie. It's our corporate policy, you have to do it. I told her no thank you and found another hotel.

Your analogy isn't very good, because all the phone brands/companies run the same from the water companies percpective. A phone call is a phone call no matter where it comes from.

It's more like as if every single phone provider required the water company to have specific equipment to receive a phone call from their particular network. So the water company only spends the money to maintain that connection with a select few of the largest providers to cover the most customers. That's not a perfect analogy, but is more like what is going on here.

The water company has to spend money to insure compatibility of their website with that of each browser. It's cheaper and easier for them to just focus on the two main used browsers and cut off the rest. Otherwise their IT and customer service departments risk dealing with customers that can't log in through one of the hundreds of other browsers that can have any number of reasons why they don't work. I'm thinking this is a cost cutting measure, not some nefarious plan to empower google or apple. I also don't think your fight will go far, especially since there are other options available for you to do business with them.

Edit: If it's a public utility, maybe you can push it as government giving unfair advantages to select companies, but I'm not sure.

That is how the PSC is viewing it. They also mentioned that browsers enabling data "privacy" are being excluded. The other thing that the PSC accurately pointed out is that American Water is the only choice for water in the state, so it's not like consumers have another choice if they don't like American Water's requirements. American Water loves touting diversity and inclusion yet is supporting browser monopolies - not surprising since America Water is itself a monopoly and is not even American-owned.

I appreciate your edit - This is the kind of thing that we tend to bend over on yet it's a great example of how the Globalists use these seemingly small changes to ultimately gain more control. Frogs in boiling water. Past time to jump out of the pot.

It used to be the case that certain enterprise software only worked with IE5, and it was too expensive to try and modify it compared to just installing IE5 on everything

I'm sure there was a reason

blame the devs for coding something that uses a depreciated widget for what sounds like a fairly basic interface.
