In general, i have always thought the whole 'shelter in place' when a gunman was in the same damn building as absolutely retarded an completely counter-intuitive. Everyone pretend to be 'asleep under their desk' smdh. Always better to simply Gtfo of dodge - doors, windows , stairways, busting out internal sheetrock walls into hallways or another room etc - i'd even climb out onto the roof and stay there or risk going down the drainpipe if i had too. Simply staying put to basically wait for your turn as some goof wanders around shooting everyone is quite frankly peak demoralisation.
The fact that people were standing outside kind of says it all. That was a place they considered to be somewhat safe. Letting the kids out in a direction away from the gunman would make sense, but the school would then be liable for kids no longer on school property. Keeping them in the classroom may get them killed, but it ensures that the gunman is one entirely at fault. This is the problem with listening to people in charge when situations like this happen.
Yeah no doubt. I would rather my kids run like their ass was on fire than wait under their desk as a gunroom move through the premises shooting everyone. I mean, If 20 kids and 2 Adults burst out of the class and ran past/ away from the gunman down the corridor and out the doors - how many would he really get or hit, rather than him able to simply shoot them all one at a time at his leisure while they pretend sleep ?/. It's so fcking sad - and yes you're correct about listening to people in charge whose best advice is to do nothing and close your eyes.
