Of course I'm over simplifying, you have "variations" with the electoral college for instance, but essentially that's the idea, we use paper ballots instead of bullets to resolve our political conflicts, and start with the premise that 1 man = 1 shot = 1 kill and once he shot he's dead or just can't fire twice, symbolically speaking, and once the vote is over everybody accepts the result regardless of who won, gets back home and call it a day

That's for the theory. Of course the election is supposed to be fair, as opposed to rigged, that goes without saying otherwise it's pointless evidently
