The word "religion" is made of two root words that together mean "again in bondage". Religion can't turn anything around. However, relationship can. Relating with Jesus can turn individuals and entire nations around. God's morality isn't embodied in a code. It's embodied in His Son. Relating with Him is our only hope for forgiveness, healing, and lasting change.
