Actually, it is *#06#. The ID numbers associated with your phone show up. True the vote or anyone willing to pay the money can get the pings with the IDs. Law enforcement can get a warrant to get the name associated with the ID.

Every device that accesses the internet has a unique address, called a MAC address. It's how they route data to the proper device. Companies buy these addresses by the thousands for their products. The manufacturers have to check this address when they are tested. I did this for over 20 years, off and on as a test engineer. This has been known for decades.
