I've been analyzing Klaus, he has the attitude as if these things are going to happen due to some unstoppable force and he can't do anything to stop it so he may as well participate in profiting from it. He doesn't work for himself, he behaves as if he doesn't have a choice and no one else has a choice on this matter either.
They never do. And they never see the inevitability of their own violent demise either. Nicolae Ceaușescu and Lavrentiy Beria were both shouting orders right up until they were shot.
