Water rights?
It's a big deal in CA. Some places even prohibit collecting rain on your property. Mostly it's a battle between irrigating crops, making sure the rivers don't run dry and all the golf courses get watered.
A lot of the valley water that should go to farmers gets diverted to Southern California (read LA county), and out to the ocean so we can save a salamander or two.
I don’t think I would like living in California very much.
I have a spreadsheet of states with 8 columns of data to figure out where to be right now. It’s daunting. Very imbedded here, kids are gone, been here a long time. Semi-rural, still a small bastion of conservatives, blah blah blah. You get the point.
