At the risk of doxxing the fuck out of myself, I can say with some authority that a great many homes and most modern developments have generators. I personally have been expecting something like this. With current fuel prices and many stations entirely out of diesel on the island I wonder how long the generators will stay on, and won’t be at all surprised if this persists well beyond that. Buckle up, the ride hasn’t even started.
Buy some solar panels.
Don't think about it. Just do it.
Not a cabal grid tied installation. Just a couple of 100 watters ($85 on Amazon) on your patio with a couple of car batteries and a couple of 200 watt invertors for $35 each. It won't run air conditioning or a microwave but it will run and charge everything else one at a time.
You don't REALLY need anything else to live.

And don't buy the harbor freight crap. They don't work.
Be careful.
Do you think the natives will rise up against the gringos and kill you like they did in st croix virgin islands in the 1970's?
Are there any cheap houses left in the slums in Puerto Rico or is that opportunity passed?
