You are right, but even back than people talk about how the elites will use any of that to kill us all. The idea that the Elites want to kills us all is not new. I'd happily agree that every time a new technology comes along, people on websites like Poal, voat, 4chan and r/conspiracy freak out about how it will cause cancer, be used for mass genocide, cause autism and there being scientists fearing for their life for telling the truth, and then just completly forget about it in a few years later to freak out about the newest technology. And that they are, as you say, mentally ill.
