Traditional political doctrine is that a sitting president is the de-facto leader their party, or at least co-chairs that position if that party also holds the House Speaker sear. The SOTU address has always been seen as an opportunity for the president to articulate the plan and platform of his party.
If 'The Squad' plan on having a 'Rebuttal' then this is a frank admission that they are not really part of the DNC anymore.
Much like the RINOs in the RNC, the DNC would like to eject these turn coats from the party but cannot without losing the majority and the chair of committees etc.
