They'll claim that the DNS collection was part university research, and that they just happened to stumble upon the President's traffic by accident.

You don't just stumble upon the President's web activity. Also they couldn't find any crimes, so they created them. They faked IP addresses associated with Russian Cell phone carriers and attributed that to Trump. That's deliberate and a crime
