Exactly right!! Canola was the first commercially available agricultural GMO seed. It was developed in Canada over several years in the LATE 1970s, patented in the early 1980s to be resistant to selective triazine herbicides. Because it was Genetically Modified, it was then illegal to call it rapeseed anymore so they invented a new name for it. In the mid 1990s Big Ag like Cyanamid/BASF were the first to develop a new GMO strain that tolerated imidazolinone based herbicides. At the same time Monsanto now Bayer developed glyphosate and glufosinate herbicide resistant strains of canola. In the early days NO consumer knew what a GMO was, as such, they were deceived into using this toxic product because of a mega advertising campaign by Big Ag companies in the US and Canada during the 1980s and 90s. Big Ag likes to use terms like Transgenic and Mutagenic to describe the process of developing canola strains to avoid using the words Genetically Modified. Big Ag even dare call them CULTIVARS instead of canola GMO STRAINS. The true SCIENCE is that CULTIVARS can only be developed by natural selection through breeding and cross pollinating plants of the same species the NATURAL GOD given way. In other words, cultivars are developed by selective breeding through pollination and cross pollination only.
