Never forgot when Trump suggested that NATO was redundant and wanted to pull out, the DS went crazy. That is enough proof to tell me that the DS need NATO for other clandestine purposes. If the nations that form the EU don't want to pay their fair share in NATO they are by their actions admitting that NATO is no longer needed, that Russia is no longer seen as a threat.

NATO is tied to the EU. Also, when the DS ousted Ukrainian President, Yanukovich, part of the reason for that is that the DS was forcing Ukraine to join NATO and Yanukovich didn't want to.
