I stopped smoking it regularly out of concern when my health started going just over a year ago (lung problems from smoking cigarettes). I started taking doctor's meds but my health has been getting worse for it, so I've been cutting those out and going back to the more natural remedies. Pot actually helps my breathing by opening up the airways, and it's what I always used for my sleep disorder and depression. The pills my doctor gives me for those don't work so well and have bad side effects.
I just got approved for medical weed. Just have an appointment coming up to approve the flower hopefully. Otherwise I'll just buy it anyways from elsewhere. I use it for the exactly same reasons you do. We should have a smoke one day if we can.
