My deepest sympathy.

I'm in a village, established in the 1800's. We even have a water tower ala Petticoat Junction. There's a couple of Hootervilles about a half hour away and Mount Pilot is about an hour. Sirens around me are still pretty rare. (They test the big emergency sirens once a month.)

When I hear them, I go to broadcastify.com and pull up the local police/fire channels to listen to. Perhaps you can find channels near you so you can hear what those sirens are responding to.

No, that's not my Mount Pilot, but it sure looks lovely! I was making a reference to the big city they used to drive in to from Mayberry on the Andy Griffith Show.

We lived in an outer ring suburb of a major metropolitan city. Had enough of the asphalt jungle and not even the small, outlying cities (Hootervilles), were far enough removed, so we ended up in 'Petticoat Junction' (yeah, I loved the 60's tv shows).

Got the chance of a lifetime that we never thought we'd get, to move away. Almost 30 years of bliss in this historic village in the middle of nurseries, farms and vineyards. Lot of great local wineries. If the lake ever freezes again, I'll walk up and bring you a bottle or two! ;)

That link doesn't provide police/fire/medic broadcasting in my area, unfortunately. Oh well.

It sounds really nice, wherever you are. I'd like to get as far away from the city as I can. If I drove and had a vehicle, I'd just follow the wind and never come back.

I have some of the early Andy Griffith shows on DVD. I should dig them out and watch them while I wait for you to come with that wine.
