Yeah, but how much is realistically habitable? ;)
Quite a lot, actually. We have 1/10th the population of the US so a lot of the land is just empty and undeveloped. True Canadians (other than the original natives) are of white European blood, and we survived through the ice ages well enough, unlike the many varieties of colored people who lived in the tropical southern hemisphere over the same period, living a much easier lifestyle. We know how to adapt. :-)
If the lake freezes, get a snowmobile and head south from Waneeta Beach. I'll be there on the south shore, waving to you!
I'm way over on the west coast. I'd probably be coming down through Idaho or even Montana, swing around through Nevada and Arizona, across Texas, and through the southern states, before swinging north again. And on a Harley or in an old pick-up truck.

Wonderful that you have so many places to escape to. I enjoy the lower population density where I'm at. To be in the middle of nowhere, is a dream come true.
Your trip sounds amazing. Every state is different, like little countries unto themselves.
After you go north and see the heartland, be sure to meander up New England way. It was one of our favorite places to visit (although SpouseAnon and I agree we make better lobster here!). Blue hell holes not withstanding, it has an aura of age and history that is almost palpable. I can only imagine what it would feel like to traipse around Europe!
As for mode of transportation, I would throw the Harley in the bed and use the pick up for travelling and the bike for local exploring!
Let me know when you're passing my way and I'll start chilling the wine!

My problem is I have no way to escape very far.

If only.... :-)
If your health isn't so great, you're probably best where you're at. It's a bitch having most of your doctors over an hour away. I can't even fathom the time and tranfers it would take, from here, on sparse public transportation. Some would be impossible to get to.
I can relate to not being able to get away. Whenever I couldn't physically escape, I used my mind. Close my eyes and I could be anything, anywhere.
I also like taking 'day trips' with maps, street view, reviews and menus. Makes me feel like I'm trotting the globe.
If only....
Stranger things have been know to happen. I'll keep a bottle on ice and a candle in the window! 🍾🕯
