Polly always amazes me!
The Jack Parsons/Aleister Crowley/L. Ron Hubbard connection is something I did a lot of research on a long time ago, long before I knew anything about the Maxwell/Mailna connection. Frank Malina and Parsons worked together starting in 1935, developing rocket fuels long before rockets were thought to be a worthwhile technology to pursue.
Parsons was more than just a disciple of Crowley. He was personally selected by Crowley to head the Los Angeles chapter of the OTO in 1944. Parsons and his wife joined the OTO in 1939 when it was headed by a man named Wilfred T. Smith, who with his wife used sexual seduction to lure in participants. Parsons quickly rose to prominence and after a few years was corresponding directly with Crowley, eventually replacing Smith as its leader. Prior to taking on the role of leader, he had helped to build up the membership while also doing classified research for the US Army.
The same year that Parsons took over leadership, he founded the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, which by the next year launched America's first successful high-altitude rocket into space. One of Parsons’ business partners at the time (and who helped him get started at CalTech) was a man named Theodore von Karman, a Hungarian Jew who was a descendant of a mathematician at the Imperial Court of Prague and who was credited with creating the world's first mechanical robot, known as 'the Golem'.
In 1945, Parsons met L. Ron Huibbard, who was a science fiction writer at the time. Parsons was impressed by Hubbard and wrote to Crowley to tell him about the man and his desire to establish a ‘New Aeon’. This was something that Parsons and Crowley were apparently interested in as well. Parsons let Hubbard live with him for the next few years.
Very soon after, Parsons and Hubbard performed a series of Enochian sex magick rituals in an attempt to conceive a ‘moon child’ – a supernatural offspring with messianic potential. These rituals became known as the ‘Babylon Working’, and drew largely from Crowley's writings. During the rituals, Hubbard reportedly channeled an entity that was mentioned in Crowley’s The Book of the Law. Parsons wrote to Crowley to inform him of this, but Crowley wasn’t pleased and soon after suspended Parsons as head of Agape Lodge.
By 1947, Parsons became involved in acquiring arms for Israel, according to von Karman. This same year, the US government revoked his security clearance.
In 1952, Parsons was killed in a suspicious chemical explosion at his home laboratory in Pasadena, California. Upon hearing about his death, his mother allegedly committed suicide. At the time, Parsons had been involved in some sort of Naval Ordinance Department research project, and was about to depart on a business trip to Mexico to build a munitions factory.
There are many side connections to all this, including the story of L. Ron Hubbard, Aldous Huxley and his Isis cults in California, and a guy named Augustus Owsley Stanley III, who in 1958 started working at the company Parsons founded (JPL) after serving a two-year stint in the US Air Force. Stanley eventually became one of the biggest manufacturers and suppliers of LSD to American youth while working as a sound engineer for the Grateful Dead. Courtney Love's father was a manager for the rock group at about the same time. The questionable interconnections of people and events go on and on and on.....
Dang that's a lot of connections. They all seem to lead to the same thing. Evil.
