Lin Wood transferred enough of these donatioms to Kyle to cover his legal defense costs. Lin Wood is legally bound to return donations for Kyle's legal defense that weren't used for Kyle's legal defense. Much as we might like Lin Wood to give the rest of the money to Kyle to spend on guns, sports cars, and a Fuck Binger billboard, legally Lin Wood can't.
This is why charities prefer general fund donations to spend as they please rather than earmarked donations, because they have to return earmarked donations if they exceed the cost of the earmarked expense.
