Wonder if I could sit down and come up with a new system based on high-throughput. Laid-out like a circuit board. Interfaces between each module (ship, dock, warehouse) must be able to support 128-bit full-duplex transfers at a time, with room to expand to 256-bit. Warehouses should be directly connected to the port in a hub-fashion, with dedicated lanes from ship offload point directly to warehouse dock door. Every single choke point or potential delay must be removed from the system. Ships themselves need to be redesigned. Containers need to be redesigned. The cranes and gantries need to go away, there needs to be a method to offload the entire ship in one motion. This is kind of fun to think about...
