Apparently it happens several times most years (en.wikipedia.org) somewhere in the world. They aren't stars but they died while playing.
This is what I was going to cite as well. It’s happened many times but this year it’s multiples higher than years passed.
Yep. In 2019 the number was iirc 14 - who collapsed on the field. It's past double that now - and then they only included actual players in (Fifa) Football matches and only while the game was is in play. Not the multitude of all other sports players, collapsing during trainings, or at home, or coaches and side line umpires and referees collapsing or all the other 'elite' players throughout different age groups (1,st, 2nd, 3rd divisions, youth groups, representative sides) falling down dead from heart attacks and strokes etc. That number is over75 world wide (Elite level or the top echelon of their chosen sport healthy and extremely fit individuals of all ages, that presumably look after themselves and eat well, all suddenly stroking out, heart attacking and succumbing to pulmonary embolisms).
