Arnold's Father was a foreign born brown shirt and Nazi in good standing. He did anything to be accepted by the German Nazis. I'm sure he has not hesitated to commit war crimes to prove his loyalty (the foreigners and the not so blond with blue eyes, trying to belong to the in-group, were the worst). Arnold has a similar history in over-adaptation, trying to become what he thinks is a good American. He definately got it wrong.
