The smart ones leave a sinking ship early. Can't say as I blame them.
Patriot, and there it is, the smart ones.
I'm guessing these cops have seen the trend toward government idiocracy going on for the past five years and went through stages of accepting the idea that the situation was becoming unworkable.
First you become aware of random unjust calls and requests to ignore certain actions by criminals.
Ok, so you shoulder on and hope things get better but it keeps getting worse. You start to hate your job and fantasize about early retirement, quitting or just going somewhere else. When it gets really bad you start looking at options seriously. Talk to your family and then start making plans hoping maybe there will be a change but no, more bad news. Then your mind is made up and no matter what they say to keep you, you're just gonna bail on them and drag up.
I've done this myself on good paying jobs. Actually called the corporate office after I quit, got assigned to another project and when I called the supervisor he acted like a complete asshole over the phone. All I wanted was the address to the motel they were using so I could meet up and sign on but no, he refused to tell me. Sure, I could have called a foreman I knew who was already on the job but why the hell would I want to be on a job with an asshole as a supervisor? I was already in route when I called the supervisor of the project but called back to corporate headquarters to tell them that no, I would for sure not be going to that project or continue working for the corporation. In my mind, I had already had enough bullshit from the first project and was still mad as hell at those guys so being talked to rudely by another supervisor just made up my mind. I called my foreman friend on the job and told him my mind was made up. He begged me to reconsider as I would be working directly with him but I told him sorry, I was not interested in being on a project with such a supervisor even if my friend was going to be sort of a protector and I'd be working directly with him. Too much can go wrong and I've known such people to play games and pawn off their errors and shabby work on a new guy.
Smart people have to know when to jump ship, if for nothing else than their own peace of mind.
Patriot, that writing on the wall was already seen early on. This is coming now to bite the city council politically.
Like you so well pointed out, there comes that time when you must decide to walk away . With Portland one should have seen this was never going to get better.
I agree with you, smart people know when to jump ship.
