Part of what we are witnessing is an economic collapse. All economies based on fiat fail. Most countries are also run by greedy criminals who obviously don't make sound decisions.
I agree with the margin call explanation. Except, it's not about a couple of (((hedge funds))), the entire financial system is unwinding faster and faster. There are going to many more "events" like this and the frequency will increase.

Yup, and the worst part is the way vice taxation can work on a digital currency. Buying a gun? Oh look at that there's a 300% use fee on the transaction. Buying ammo? Eek, its 1$/round tax. Buying a sex change surgery? That's free and even endorsed.
