I know, re-post, but seeing that the Rush Lim story memory-holed this out of existence. Here it is again.
Jones Day Not The Only Victim
While Accellion did not comment on which users of the FTA service had been hit, the attackers have shed some light.
The CLOP ransomware group has claimed the attack. Like most sophisticated ransomware gangs operating in 2021, the CLOP actors have a dedicated ‘leaks’ site. Victims who have either opted not to pay or who have yet to make a decision can fully expect to see their data posted for all to see.
In addition to Jones Day the hackers have posted files from the Office of the Washington State Auditor, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and Singapore telecommunications giant Singtel.
The Aftermath
The hackers claim to have made multiple attempts to contact Jones Day. The firm, however, remained silent.
In the case of Jones Day the hackers posted multiple data archives totaling dozens of gigabytes in size. The first contains emails that were exfiltrated from the firm. The second is a massive, multi-part cache of other sensitive files that were taken during the breach.
It’s an incredibly significant breach given Jones Day’s high profile client list. The firm has represented more than half of the companies on the Fortune 500 list at some point and recently represented former President Donald Trump on one of many election-related lawsuits filed in the winter of 2020.
It may take quite some time before the full extent of the attack — and how hard it impacted the many victims — is known.
