I take that approach with, for example, food. Not materialistic here at all.
I take the time to research, raise, grow and prepare food from whole ingredients and to experiment and learn and in order to eat right and we’ll and to produce nourishing real food it takes time and commitment. I know how time consuming and rewarding it is.

YOu have to find stuff in Alaska for supplies which is why just looking helps connect you to a network of people that aren't buying from the aholes.
Plus russia might be a good resource for purchases, but the shipping and customs and smuggling has to be weighed
