So my DC trip for the miracle re-inauguration of POTUS (or heckling of Biden) is officially doomed now. Yesterday (1/13), my pre-paid hotel was cancelled due to "prohibited travel into the DC metro area."
Then today (1/14), I got an email from the airline stating that guns are being banned from checked luggage on their flights involving all 3 DC airports from Jan. 16-23. When I called American Air to try and get a refund on my flights, the little wench refused and when I asked for a supervisor, she said that SHE was the supervisor. She also said that this same policy has been enacted at AA, Delta and United and that it's coming from the govt itself (regulations) as a directive - it's not coming from each individual airlines' own policy (which means it's not affecting just those 3 airlines). Fucking perfect. :-(
Here's exactly what the email said:
At American, the safety of our customers and team members is our top priority. As an additional precautionary measure in advance of the Presidential Inauguration, American Airlines will not permit the transport of firearms in checked bags on flights into D.C.-area airports (BWI, DCA and IAD) from Jan. 16 through Jan. 23, 2021.
Credentialed law enforcement officials and active-duty military members traveling on Department of Defense orders will be exempt.
Customers who have already departed from a D.C.-area airport on a roundtrip ticket and transported a firearm in checked baggage should contact American Airlines Reservations.
Our team is closely monitoring the situation and will make any additional adjustments as needed.
If you need assistance making changes to your travel as a result of this temporary policy change, please contact our Reservations team
