The mask diffuses it through a larger area, velocity is slowed down going through the mask diffusion, so it does not move as far away from the face. Then there is the vapor escaping around the edges of the mask, that is vapor directed along the facial features so it will hug the head area as it exits the mask again at a slower velocity than compared to vapor expelled from the nose and mouth without a mask. I think this is what you are talking about.
What I’m saying is that the reported benefit of wearing a mask is that it keeps your breath from going far away from your own head so as to offer more protection to people around you than not wearing a mask.
This video literally demonstrates exactly that happening while claiming it’s proving that masks “have no effect.”

The doc is exposing the ineffective filtration (vapor goes through the mask) as well as the leaks around the mask.
The vapors may appear to hang around the head but over a short time they will still be inhaled by others. Indoors the virus remains alive for at least minutes in the air, longer as droplets on surfaces, IIRC.
If covid were a real pandemic, I think a contientious CDC would have us treating used masks like hazardous medical waste.

I think 90% (statistical wild assed guess) of covid sufferers caught it through hand to mouth/face. Wash your hands, forget the mask, take vitamins C and D plus a zinc supplement daily and you'll be impervious.
