If the quest for underlying truth is to continue, "science" will need to spilt in two. The worshippers of scientism, a modern day lysenkoism, will go their way with "consensus science" and findings that are all filtered through an ideological lens. Real science must continue in the shadows, articles and papers will no longer be published in "journals", but passed around (possibly anonymously) a fairly small community for feedback and criticism.
Which way the world goes in the near future is uncertain. But if it goes badly we must preserve knowledge for when the darkness passes.
