I half agree with you.
It was gratuitous and I wish young Theo hadn't seen it, but it happened.
At the same time, I do see it as kind of brilliant, in a way, exposing the absurdity of the idea that there is no meaningful difference between the sexes and that women can be soldiers and should be allowed to shower with men.
It takes a ridiculous idea to it's logical conclusion, and I love it for that.
