Facebook and Wikipedia are both based on PHP so the whole small website thing is invalid. PHP prior to 5.2 was a piece of shit but that was 2006 and after that it was a perfectly capable language. It's a joy to program in now (7.1+). Compiling is the refresh button on your browser. To each their own but I like it.

I don't know. I imagine there's more demand for pyjeets than for PHP coders, but there are also a billion of them. Maybe PHP occupies the same sort of niche as FORTRAN.

Yeah, back in the early 2000s I was trying to decide what was going to be the next hot language... and picked Ruby. Previously I had decided to focus on supporting OS/2.
