I could use the openvpn virtual appliance but that seems like cheating.
Will need a Xen or KVM VPS with kernel TUN support. Setting up an OpenVPN server is a PITA. Sad these days you can't seed bittorrent yourself, you can't even seed on a seedbox because your provider gets DMCA complaints so you must have seedbox VPN'd with anon VPSs
I have 5 hypervisors..... I may have gone a little bit crazy.
Does the cost for a connection w/ static addresses outweigh the cost of 3rd party services? For me, no. Other options like dynamic dns type crap still bring the number of chefs in the kitchen up to 3+ the same way a third party vpn would. You, ISP, and the 3rd party service unless you flat out pay your isp for static ips. Then it's 2 but they're likely logging everything anyway same as anyone. It's a no win scenario. Good luck paying the ISP in bitcoins.
Have to be static for other reasons so no reason not to do it.
Something is better than nothing. The problem w/ most ISPs like verizon and comcast is that it's known they sell all your metadata. New VPN services are popping up all the time but like earlier stated in another article you can't really verify what they're doing. It really boils down to trusting a small company claiming to be better than a big one openly fucking yer arse and not hiding it. "Trust factor" doesn't mean you trust any of them. It just means you use a vpn b/c you know your isp sells your data. Regardless the type, using a vpn is generally better than using none imho. Using one means maybe your vpn provider that claims not to sell your data might be. Using none means you know that your ISP is and just accept it. Fucked coming and going but most don't realize it. Sadly enough, that's good business practice.
I plan to run one for poal, for gaming purposes and so thats an incentive to have one.
Call it "glownigger VPN" lol, it'll keep the right people away
lol I was gonna go with lan.poal.co but your idea is pretty good too.
maybe igloo.poal.co, because igloos shield you from the elements
