I just use discord with an anonymous username and a discord only email.

Isn't Poal chat on a Matrix instance? I know Element was Riot was Vector.

Web version:

https://chat.poal.co App version:

"Element" or any Matrix/Synapse compatible app

This is what it says on a sidebar. I'm far from an expert on this stuff, was just thinking on setting up an Element server for me and a few of my IRL friends and then one of them sent me this. Decided to just let it go for now, until something better comes along or more info is available.

I use Nextcloud Talk. It's uper easy to setup a nextcloud server. I use Docker and Nginx. Talk has dedicated apps with Text, Audio, and Video. You can make users or just send a public link to a room.

I personally have two nextcloud servers running. One for storage and one purely for Talk. I have about ~20 people that use my Talk server and i run it on an old thinkpad 420 and I've never noticed any problems.

Thanks, I'll look it up. Especially like the "easy to setup" part.

From your link:

We have not seriously investigated those disturbing pieces of information, so let’s consider them as FUD and let’s not wonder whether Matrix software should be eligible for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign or not.

Synapse is an open source Matrix homeserver written in Python 3/Twisted, so anyone can check its code for backdoors.
