I always assume my work data is never private. I surf the internet on my phone, never my work computer. I call colleagues on their personal cell phone, never via Teams, Slack or Zoom. I assume my employer has access to all my work communications. If I want a private chat, I send outside of work chat systems.

You're unusual among people. I work with (and have worked with) many people who used work email as a private email, doing things like banking and bill pay with it.

Asking "What happens if you have to leave here suddenly?" gets a blank stare. Oh well.

Everything is for convenience sake. That's why people believe the media. They make it easy for you. Finding the truth takes work.
