It doesn't set enough precident. The correct precedent to set is that if some group of people are burning down your town, the town's people can shoot them on sight to prevent continued violent destruction. In what kind of clown world is this not reasonable. Yet we have to have a trial over something far from actual reason.

If he had shot an arsonist who was protected by a violent mob, whom the police were refusing to address, then that would be the gray area.. in a lesser clown world. If that went to trial we could debate if we were in clown world or not for it, but with the case that actually went forward there is no doubt.
