>The days of a dedicated highway trust fund are finished

"People will miss it about as much as they missed the Social Security Trust Fund when Bill Clinton folded it into the general ledger of the Federal Budget back in the 90s.

That's how Clinton achieved the "miracle" of a balanced budget back in the late 90s, by the way, kids. Nothing changed in reality, he just applied the (at the time) huge SS surplus to the general budget and TA DA! Balanced budget.

Nobody will care about this either."

Im sure its not just a tax decrease. The fed never drops taxes.

Don't expect them to stop collecting it.

It's bullshit.

Yeah. Pretty sure the comment featured above about clinton is spot on, chances are that's exactly that, and we'll see biden parade as if he saved the budget or some shit in the next couple of months. That or everybody gets a free iphone.

The federal fuel tax funnels billions to the government. 35% of the cost of gas is federal fuel tax. The actual gas costs like $1.15 per gallon for 93 octane, and the rest is taxes, state and federal. That means 2 or 3 dollars and change are just taxes.

Gasoline sales are profitable for the oil companies, but moreso for the government. The government subsidizes big oil partly through the fuel tax. This story is bullshit, most roads are funded at the local level not federal.

>most roads are funded at the local level not federal.

Yeah in theory, but that's forgetting a tad too fast about federal bailout of anything bankrupt at the local level, given that your state is in the right team of course

There's a reason why he's doing it, and it has nothing to do with improving anything, except the buddy system. They are self serving pricks, they are all about diverting resources from tax payers to their pockets.
