From a purely dispassionate standpoint, you have to appreciate the deviousness and political skill that they applied to exploit this situation to their own benefit. Trump was totally outplayed.

You had an election that the majority of voters believed was suspect and it looked like the injured party were actually going to try and do something about it. My understanding was that they were in session specifically so that objections could be raised and the investigations could continue.

To go from that difficult position to having the session cancelled and anyone in disagreement basically categorized as a domestic terrorist was one of the cleverest pieces of political theatre I've ever witnessed. Machiavelli would be proud.

The republicans learnt a harsh lesson on that day - what will to power truly is. Many people are still paying the price for that miscalculation.

The real tragedy isn't so much that the problem won't go away - it shouldn't go away - everyone has seen the true face of the political system now, they can't forget it.

The real tragedy is the damage it has done to the political system, that it will lead to extremely severe consequences down the road, and that those consequences have been anticipated and will be manipulated just as skillfully as Jan 6th was in all likelihood, which will lead to a further diminishing of political integrity.

I'm sitting 10-15 feet away from a hamplanet that watched what happened and thinks everything is fine.

Some people will never wake up unfortunately, so much of what we have to put up with is theatre for their consumption - the low information voters like the one near you, and this was a masterpiece, there's very little we can say without looking like tin foil hat crazies.

He tried to engage me in conversation about politics during the debates and he's completely engrossed with the theater aspect of it. I told him I wasn't interested as that crap isn't meant for my consumption.

And if you are reading this and thinking that guy must think his shit doesn't stink, you are correct in that assessment.
