If there's a better way to describe arguments that are borderline Qoomer delusions, sure.
"hopium" is just one word for an over-optimistic argument that isn't supported by history and deserves mockery.
How about the old go-to "wishful thinking?"
I chose "hopium" because it also implies an addiction to doing nothing and letting things take their course ie. "trusting the plan".
Describes it fine. The difference is, people don't form their argument around the phrase. They use it when it is necessary.
It's just overused and loses all impact in the process. When everyone uses it in every argument, it's useless. That word is already annoying and tired.
