Gonna skirt TOS and say I kinda hope he does, not because I want him to die, but because I hope he's the catalyst that begins the hot civil war finally. This isn't gonna end until fighting breaks out openly.

He took a rifle shot to the carotid artery. Based on the fencing response his brain stem was damaged directly or from the hydraulic shock. He's dead.
