I've seen some problems with notifications since the upgrade. I'm on a laptop with win10/chrome.

I'll get a tab notification but no red envelope, at least sometimes. When I check there is in fact a message. After reading the message and using backspace, the notification is not cleared. I have to go back to the message and click "show as read" or whatever to clear them. It was not like this before. Simply reading the message and backspacing would reset all notifications. Oh, and I have cleared my cache yesterday.

Not a huge problem but thought you'd like to know.

I saw the announcement. They added that capability but it wasn't like that before. Simply reading a comment was sufficient to clear them before.

That’s normal. You need to refresh the page. The badge on the hamburger doesn’t refresh itself to save resources. When Poal will scale up, we’ll enable more dynamic features.

Edit: as Funky mentioned, it’s been a requested feature, on poal v1.0 if you have several replies in the queue and you reply to one, the notifications automatically clear up (mark as read) and you’ll end up not knowing which replies you’ve actually read.

I keep looking for this hamburger you all speak of, but I don't have it on my screen. I see my user name, points, settings, envelope, day/night, log out and that's it on the top bar.

What are the burger menu options? I'm on a tablet, so probably using mobile. Is it a desktop view or PC thing?

I could look at the CSS, but does it use media-size or window-size or something? What's the cutoff(s) in pixels?

I'm using Samsung galaxy 10 tablet and right now the Samsung browser. I also use Chrome and I just checked, it's the same as with this browser. The only difference I saw was by the poal logo. On Samsung the white text is on top of the word poal on chrome it's below it.

Both browser menus have a request desktop. When I request desktop then the option switches to request mobile. I see request desktop on both browsers, so I assume I'm on mobile. Still nothingburger :) . I rarely use desktop and haven't yet requested it on either browser, so if I'm not missing anything the hamberder offers, I won't worry about it.

Did I mention I'm technologically challenged? 😄

You say it's normal but it wasn't like before for me. And since I'm on a laptop I don't have a hamburger. Even this message had a tab notification but no red envelope. I even opened up new tab and poal instance while typing this and even after reading your comment it now shows a red envelope along with a tab notification.

As I said, not a huge deal just inconvenient. At least somebody (you, an admin) actually replied, and in a timely manner. Other sites don't do that and it's highly appreciated.

With poal 2.0 you need to actually click on “mark as read” for each individual reply notification.

I’ll see what I can do to enable it when you click a notification link.

There was an issue with the mentions, I fixed it.

Now everything works as intended.

When you open your PM box (the envelope), unread notifications such as mentions, post replies, comment replies and modmail will not get automatically marked as read (so you don't lose track of what you haven't read yet).

The notification count will decrease only when you'll use "mark as read" or open a message link (or mark all as read).

Not to drag this out even further, I still notice that I get a tab notification but no red envelope. Not a problem really as I'm usually part way down the page and wouldn't see the envelope anyway. Also noticed a very, very slight delay now in a vote registering when I click the arrow, so maybe the cache is just a little bigger, slower now?
